EO Sustainability Initiative
This supersedes political parties, race, creed, religion; it doesn't matter. If we do not solve the environment, we're all damned."- Elon Musk on the importance of finding sustainability.
Here we are, working hard to build a grand legacy. But, this bright future we work towards is, in reality, tarnished by the decaying planet.
The energy, fuel and other resources that the planet gives us are limited, and their extinction from the planet is drawing closer with each passing day. If we are to build a future, we must first consider the planet's health and start its treatment immediately.
EO is a nexus of some of the brightest business leaders in the world. Our members well understand the gravity of the situation and have begun their procedural remedies for it. The first step they all have taken is to incorporate "sustainability" into their personal and professional lives.
Sustainability doesn't mean we stop using combustible fuel in its entirety. It simply means that we utilize earth’s natural resources prudently in a "sustainable" manner with minimal to no wastage.
EO Gurgaon X Sustainability
EO Gurgaon believes that, like charity, sustainability also begins at home. Due to which our members introduced the noble concept to their families and children as well. The young minds astounded everyone with their dedication to the cause and their purely brilliant ideas to spread awareness about the need of the hour - sustainability, and encourage others to follow their suit.
EO Gurgaon Kids share their take on why we need sustainability and their novel ideas on how to achieve this goal:
Arieana Singh spoke passionately about what she would do if she were the nation's leader to create a sustainable lifestyle for everyone. Her fantastic ideas included: introducing more electric cars into society since cars running on batteries would be more beneficial for the environment than cars that burn carbon-based fuels. She also suggested that a strict penalty be imposed on all those who cut trees and make them and plant more trees instead. Arieana also believes that knowledge alone can save the future; if more young students are educated on the importance of sustainability, the idea can reach more families and have a more significant impact.
Young Adwit Jain also spoke poignantly about his love for the planet whilst quoting the legendary words spoken by the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi- “The world has enough for everyone's needs, but not everyone's greed."
Arieana & Udira Nijhawan gave ingenious ideas on how to start the revolution of sustainability at home! Together they chimed in with their favourite mantra of "reduce reuse and recycle." Leading by example, they told us all about the little things they do to take care of the planet. Conservation of water and electricity, lower dependence on plastic, recycling our waste properly and planting more trees are just a few of their brilliant (and relatively easy to follow!) habits.
Recently, EO Gurgaon kids visited Select City Walk's Recycling unit. Delhi's premier shopping mall has a dedicated unit that helps convert all the garbage they collect into usable manure. Its Director, and esteemed EO Gurgaon member Nimish Arora, educated the children on how the waste from the mall is first segregated daily and then recycled to produce manure used to grow more trees and plants. He also shed light on the various advantages of using green electricity, one of which was saving a whopping amount of expenditure each month, which would be much higher if they were only using fuel-based electricity. In the past, Select City Walk has been host to several donation drives and awareness drives that encourage people to actively become a part of the revolution for sustainability.
It's pretty clear that there is no other solution to the problem we face. We must learn and adopt a sustainable way of life for a future, for our children and the planet. EO Gurgaon, as a community, believes that these small steps can go a long way in the promise to build a grand future. We’re moving sustainably & together towards tomorrow!
